Xiaomi has just launched its latest Android skin dubbed as the MIUI 10. The new UI is based on Google’s Android Oreo operating system. The company will be slowly rolling out the new MIUI 10 update to its smartphones. The new MIUI 10 software claims to improve speed, design, and sound among other things. Xiaomi has included quite a few nifty features like gestures and has also added Progressive Web Apps feature. MIUI 10 will have support across aspect ratios – 18:9, 19:9 and 16:9.
While the new MIUI 10 focuses a lot on artificial intelligence, a key camera feature will make old Xiaomi smartphones more capable in the camera department. Xiaomi claims that it has trained its MIUI 10 algorithms on around 1 lakh photos to deliver portrait mode photos with single-lens cameras. For the depth effect or portrait mode, having a dual-lens camera is not necessarily important. The same effect can be achieved with a single-lens camera as well, like in the Google Pixel 2.
Xiaomi has also improved its camera software to deliver portrait mode single-lens camera smartphones. The good news is that with the latest MIUI 10, old Xiaomi phones too will get it. Xiaomi will also deliver portrait mode on the front camera on select models with MIUI 10. While there is no official date, we expect it to release soon.
