Nintendo of America affirmed the news Wednesday in a tweet: "Nintendo and Illumination are banding together on a animated picture featuring Mario, co-created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri!" 
Miyamoto is the maker of Mario and numerous other Nintendo properties, and Meledandri is the proprietor of Illumination Entertainment, alongside Universal Studios. The Wall Street Journal announced in November that Nintendo and Illumination were close to an agreement for a motion picture about Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. The games and spinoffs have sold more than 330 million units. 

Nintendo concurred in 2015 with Universal Parks and Resorts to manufacture attractions in view of Nintendo characters including Mario and Luigi.

Nintendo made an arrangement that brought forth 1993's live-action "Super Mario Bros." featuring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper, yet the film performed inadequately in the cinema world.
